This banal 1950's detached colonial split level in Washington D.C. was completely recast. Refaced with limestone, roofed with standing seam metal, and pierced by skylights, the house was transformed. While the new expansive mahogany windows flooded the house with sun and the facade of channel glass provided filtered light, an open cantilevered stair mobilized the split level creating a cascade of interpenetrating spaces.
